The Life and Achievements of Kamala Harris

Kamala Harris was born in Oakland, California, to immigrant parents from India and Jamaica. She attended Howard University, a historically Black college, where she majored in political science and economics before earning her law degree from UC Hastings.

As San Francisco's District Attorney, Harris created a reentry program for non-violent offenders, cutting recidivism rates. She was also the first woman and first Black person to serve in this role, emphasizing innovative approaches to criminal justice reform.

Elected in 2016, Harris was the second African American woman and first South Asian American in the U.S. Senate. She gained national attention for her rigorous questioning in Senate hearings, including those involving Supreme Court nominees and high-profile investigations.

In 2020, Harris became the first female, first Black, and first South Asian Vice President of the United States. Her role involves significant influence on policy, particularly in areas like immigration reform, climate change, and social justice issues.
